Recap: Zaleski Gravel 31

4 cyclists. 31.4 miles. 3300 feet of climbing. We stopped along the way to eat snacks and had one interaction with a dog that came off a property but responded to yelling.

Route notes: Parking is available at the shelter in Zaleski near the baseball field. This route has several low spots that are prone to flooding. At miles 1.8, 18.9, and 30.1 the route crosses or converges with Raccoon Creek which floods often. Avoid this route after rains. At mile 2.6 you may be tempted to turn right but the road dead ends at the fence line for the Austin Powder Company property. Atkinson Ridge has reverted to gravel and a new road has been built around the slip in the road. Stay tuned on whether it stays gravel. Nice mix of gravel and low traffic paved country roads.
