Recap: Bremen Dirty Road Ride 43

Headed out to try a new route pulled together from three existing Bremen routes. I made the route counter clockwise to mix up the scenery. What I found was some existing gravel roads are now chip and seal and this new route should be designated a dirty road ride, which means it has less than 50% gravel in the mix. The route itself is scenic and challenging at 43 miles and over 4000 feet of climbing. I stopped about 20 miles at a ballfield to eat lunch. Temps were in the 40’s at the start and consistent headwind from the south also added a challenge to the ride. The sun came out and temps shot up to low 70’s only to retreat into the low 50’s toward the end as sprinkles arrived. Met some friendly cows at a farm on one climb which ended with a licked shifter. I am guessing the salt from my hands was enticing. Also talked to the owner of a 100 year old school house turned residence and his collection of antique restored tractors. He mentioned that the prison on Penn Rd. was there the movie Brubaker was shot.
