Our small group headed out to ride the OGG Homer SE44 route which starts at the Homer Ballfields. As I was setting up my bike I realized I forgot my Garmin GPS but I have the Ride with GPS app installed on my iPhone 13 Pro. So I was good to go. I found the route on the app, hit Navigate and rolled out.

Make sure to put your phone in airplane mode to save some battery. Don’t worry the GPS is always on and will navigate correctly. I am running a pre development version of iOS17 and had battery loss around 40% for the ride. I was able to listen to the voice prompts for the turns and if I was unclear I picked up my phone and could see the turn information on Live Activities (iOS17+) on the lock screen. Once I was done with the ride I held down the pause button for a couple seconds to save the ride information.

The OGG Homer SE44 route is a mix of low traffic farm roads, chip and seal and gravel roads. There are no services on the route so carry everything you need. The gravel on the eastern end includes some climbing and Harmon Road is a notoriously messy climb on both sides of the valley. Route below the photos.
