Brian Davis shared a number of routes in the Port Washington area and we decided to explore the Hartwood 37 route.

We parked at the Port Washington Elementary School located at 304 E Arch St, Port Washington, Ohio 43837. Plenty of parking on multiple parking lots at the school.

Route has great gravel sections and a LOT of climbing. 4700 feet of climbing over 37.6 miles. Roads started out as icy/snow covered and then turned mushy as the temps climbed into the thirties. Another challenging ride with serious climbs and some headwind. The last section of gravel has switchbacks and drops to the valley from the ridge in under a mile.

Green Rd is an unmaintained township road with multiple muddy puddles and minor stream crossings.

As we entered the woods my rear derailleur locked up and as I restarted I noticed a weird noise/rubbing. We thought the clutch got gummed up but when we looked closer Chris realized that the B-Limit screw was horribly bent causing the pulley to rub against the cassette. I walked most of the remaining hills in the last 19 miles. ~ Ray

Temps were in the 30’s at the start and once the sun came out it shot into the upper 30’s, but then dropped Into upper 20’s at the end..

Lots of dogs out running along with us or barking, but nothing aggressive.
